After you find out that exercises can help you, a physician can also give you specifics that will help target your problem areas. You’ll learn how to open up your throat, and finally get a good night’s sleep.

One of the common problems that can cause snoring is having a tense jaw. To alleviate this problem, close your mouth and pretend you are actively chewing gum. Do this for about a minute. Be sure that both sides of your molars move apart and then touch again. Your lips should remain closed.

If you’re not accustomed to this exercise, your jaw may become a bit tired. Chew for a shorter time period and then work your way up to longer time periods. And making the sound of “mmm” will help your exercise, too. This contracts the weaker tissue, that will open your airways. And the muscles in the back of your throat are a problem area for snoring, too.

After you have tried this exercise for a couple weeks, you may find that you can sleep without snoring. Your family may be surprised, and let you know that they don’t hear the snoring anymore. You may also notice that your mouth isn’t as dry when you wake up in the morning, either.

If your spouse has been upset with your snoring, you may have seen them resort even to ear plugs, so that they can get some sleep. But after you try the gum-chewing exercise, you may notice that she will no longer be kept awake by the noise. Sprays may have worked occasionally, but exercise is a better stop snoring remedy. You’ll be happy to awaken next to your spouse, instead of finding them on the couch with a pillow over their head.

Even if your snoring is not completely alleviated with the chewing exercise, you may find that you notice the snoring comes back a bit when you haven’t done the exercises for a few days. That’s a good reminder to go back to your exercises. Your snoring may not be stopped completely, but it may greatly decrease, and you’ll notice the improvement after a short time.
